Welcome!
I'm Liberty, and I love to write and curate stories. I have worked as a freelance copywriter, editor, project manager, and teacher for 19 years.
People energize me and I love talking to them and writing about them and the inspiring things they do. Some of my favorite writing projects have included advertising copywriting, magazine profiles, and the autobiography that I was the ghostwriter for: Race, Identity, and Privilege from the U.S. to the Congo (Rowan & Littlefield, 2021). I enjoy writing in all forms-- a pithy advertisement paired with vivid images, a profile of an inspiring person, an article about a librarian dubbed "the data whisperer," or a feature story on a changemaker theater doing social good in the world. I also write poetry, memoir, and essays that often explore themes of race and multicultural identity, ethnic hair, adoption, faith, and motherhood.
My work experiences also include curating stories for others and coaching people in their own writing. I worked as an in-house editor, proofer, and project manager for the educational publisher McGraw-Hill and for Pitt Magazine, and I've freelanced for a number of other companies and publishers. I've taught creative writing, journalism, and grant writing to college and graduate students since 2008.
I grew up in rural Illinois and currently reside with my husband and two daughters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where we enjoy hiking, being with friends, and laughing a little every day.
